Trip to the hospital
Friday, 10 June 2016
Fortunately, it wasn't for me. I spent a very long day taking a friend of mine to his appointment at a major hospital several hours away.
Those big hospitals are a zoo. We went to one far wing of the place only to be told we had to be in a different wing right across the complex. Once we got there, we discovered the first place was wrong and that's actually where he had his first appointment.
Since my friend can only walk short distances I pushed him in one of the wheel chairs provided by the hospital. Only after crossing the complex a couple times did I discover one of the brakes was defective and dragging the whole time. That came as some relief to me as I thought I was just in terrible physical shape. With the brake fixed it wasn't bad at all.
Being in that hospital brought back memories . . . terrible terrible memories. I once came to in the surgical wing of that place with no idea how I got there. The first words I heard was: he's not a good candidate for surgery.
Say what? Yeah, bad memories, but at least this trip my buddy had good results. I'll put that in the good memory column.
It also helped that we had a yummy dinner at a decent Chinese place. On the final leg home we stopped for a drink at an Inn neither of us had been to in a long time. We were remembered and treated like royalty. The owner did not let us pay for our drinks. It was on the house. Nice.
In spite of dealing with the hospital, we had a pretty good day. We decided to do another road trip next week. This time it'll be a fun trip to places to we want to go, so that should be even better.

Evans Notch
Saturday, 7 May 2016
My lovely wife and I meandered around Saturday. The winter ban is off the Evans Notch road so we took a little trip. The road meanders along the Maine/New Hampshire border. It's a twisty and hilly road. We took our car but it's lots of fun on a fast motorcycle. Happy memories.

Photos don't do the place justice.

The trees are just barely starting to come into leaf. It's been a cool spring.
We are working on getting into better shape as we'd like to do more hiking in the mountains. We spent too much time in the flat lands so we need to get our hill legs back. Hiking in the mountains is a great way to get into condition.

Quick trip to the coast
Monday, 25 April 2016
Sunday my lovely wife and I went a quick trip to the coast of Maine. We joined up with some friends and went to Hamiton Marine in Portland Maine. There aren't a lot of marine supply stores where I live in the mountains. Zero, in fact. Fortunately, the coast of Maine is only three hours away.
My lovely wife rather go buy boat goodies rather than shop for jewelry. I love her so much.
We had a lot of little odds and ends to purchase: things lost in the shipwreck, parts for the Oday sailboat, and hardware for the boat trailer. One of the tough decisions was the purchase of a new boat hook. Do we get a beautiful one made of brass and hardwood or the modern one make of aluminum and plastic. This time utility won out and modern one came home with us. The fact that it doesn't need varnish might have been the deciding factor for me.
While in the area we had to check out the ocean.

You can't go to the coast without taking a photo of a lighthouse.

We had a great lunch at Salvage BBQ (TX eat your heart out.) Later we met up with friends around a campfire. Finally made it home around midnight.
Now it's off to start installing all those lovely bits and bobs from the store.
